As the old adage goes, &#8216;We are what we eat&#8217;. Aside from doing exercise routines, eating healthily is the other side of the equation.</p>
<p>The conditions for healthy eating are much different than it was a generation ago. No longer is a healthy diet about eating &#8216;three square meals&#8217; per day. In fact, this expression originated from the British navy, referring to the wooden square plates that cooks used to serve food. While the naval diet is not exactly healthy (as you may know, Scurvy was a common disease in the Seven Seas), the tips outlined below are sure to keep your body energized:</p>
<p>* Watch how many calories you eat. Do not eat too much or too little. As a general rule of thumb, the recommended value per day is 2000 calories. There are other factors to consider, however, such as age, height, weight, and amount of physical activity.</p>
<p>* Eat a wide variety of food. Do not just eat within one food group all the time. You should maintain a healthy diet that includes vegetables, whole grains, and fruits. Feel free to explore different foods!</p>
<p>* Eat the proper serving. Nowadays, restaurants give you portions that are way too large, which contributes to the obesity rates everywhere. The word &#8217;supersize&#8217; has unfortunately entered our vocabulary. In other cultures, the food portions are much smaller (and consequently much less expensive). The next time you dine out at a restaurant, split up any large restaurant dishes between multiple people. Not only do you save money, but you are also eating healthier!</p>
<p>* As mentioned before, eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Your body needs a fine balance of complex carbohydrates (or whole grains, such as whole wheat and brown rice). These are used more slowly in your body, thus keeping you full for a longer period of time. Fresh organic local produce is also highly recommended.</p>
<p>* Drink lots of water. Although the myth of drinking 8 glasses of water per day has been debunked, we should still drink plenty of fluids daily. Water is one of the healthiest substances in this planet. Our bodies are consists of 80% water.</p>
<p>* Eat less refined sugar, salt, and grain. We put excessive amounts of unhealthy condiments into our food. While it makes our meals taste better, it also contributes to an unhealthy lifestyle. Too much sugar contributes to diabetes and obesity, while too much salt may give us heart problems. A recent study shows that Canadians eat 50% too much sodium, contributing to a wide variety of health problems.</p>
<p>* Exercise regularly. Eating a healthy diet is only part of the equation. If you add in routine physical activity, you can further improve your well-being.</p>
<p>Eating healthily is a step by step process. All of the tips above should not be implemented at once. Instead, you should slowly work these habits into your life at a pace that makes you feel comfortable. The best way to develop healthy eating habits is through time, patience, and commitment.</p>

<p>Our body has billions and billions of cells that require oxygen to create energy.In this normal metabolic process some oxygen molecules lose an electron thereby losing their stability.These unstable oxygen molecules which are called free radicals try to stabilize themselves by snatching electrons from nearby molecules resulting in more free radicals that damage healthy tissues.</p>

There is a lot a person can do such as jog or walk every morning, play basketball or any other sport with friends but if a person wants to have muscles and look lean, then one can sign up and workout in a gym.</p>
<p>People workout for 3 reasons;</p>
<p>The first is that the person is overweight and the only way to lose those extra pounds will be to reduce ones calorie intake and at the same time workout in the gym. The second is that the person is underweight and the only way to add extra pounds is to have more calories in ones diet and workout. The third is just for fun and to keep that person in shape.</p>
<p>To obtain best results your plan should include cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase muscle-fat ratio that increases a man&#8217;s metabolism and thus gain or lose weight. Just like taking any medicine, first consult the doctor before any form of exercise.</p>
<p>Here are some benefits of exercise;</p>
<p>1. It is the easiest way to maintain and improve ones health from a variety of diseases and premature death.</p>
<p>2. Research have proven that it makes an individual feels happier and increases ones self esteem which ultimately reduces the chances of one falling into depression or anxiety.</p>
<p>3. An active lifestyle makes an individual live longer than a man who doesn&#8217;t experience one.</p>
<p>Working out for someone who has not done it before should be done gradually. Endurance will not be built in a day and doing it repeatedly will surely be beneficial to the person. It is advisable to workout regularly with a reasonable diet. A person can consult with a dietitian or a health professional to really help plan a good diet program. It starts by evaluating the lifestyle and the health of the patient before any program can be made. Afterward, this is thoroughly discussed and recommended to the person which usually consists of an eating plan and an exercise program that does not require the use of supplements or one to purchase any expensive fitness equipment.</p>
<p>A good diet should have food from all the food groups. This is made up by 2 things. The first is carbohydrates. The food that a person consumes should have vitamins, minerals and fiber. A lot of this can come from oats, rice, potatoes and cereals. The best still come from vegetables and fruits since these have photochemical, enzymes and micro-nutrients that are essential for a healthy diet. The second is fat which can come from mono and poly saturated food sources rather than animal fats. Since fat contains more than double the number of calories in food, this should be taken in small quantities to gain or lose weight.</p>
<p>Another way to stay healthy is to let go a few vices. Most people smoke and drink. Smoking has been shown to cause lung cancer and other illnesses and complications for the mother at birth. Excessive drinking has also been shown to do the same. For those who do not smoke, it is best to stay away from people who smoke because studies have shown that Non smokers are at risk of getting cancer through inhalation of secondary smoke too.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Loyola University&#8217;s Nursing School located in Chicago, IL plans to conduct a large trial to evaluate vitamin D&#8217;s effect on depression and insulin resistance in women with diabetes. Sue Penckofer, Ph.D., RN, a professor at the school remarked, &#8220;Vitamin D deficiency continues to be a problem despite the nutrient&#8217;s widely reported health benefits. &#8220;Chicago winters compound this issue when more people spend time away from sunlight, which is a natural source of vitamin D.&#8221;</p>
<p>People with type 2 Diabetes experience  with increased resistance to insulin, also have depression, more frequently and occurs more often in women compared to men. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with depression, diabetes and other serious chronic disorders. </p>
<p>Recent research studies indicate vitamin D deficiency is far more widespread than previously recognized.  It accounts for the difference in the distribution of certain chronic diseases such as prostate cancer and multiple sclerosis, based on location.  For example, these diseases are more prominent in northern locations compared to warmer,  tropical ones. </p>
<p>The study will give 50,000 international units of vitamin D every week for 6 months to 80 women with type 2 diabetes, from 18 to 70 with signs of depression.  They will also measure their vitamin D levels and other factors three times during the study.</p>
<p>&#8220;There is evidence to suggest that vitamin D supplementation may decrease insulin resistance,&#8221; Dr. Penckofer commented. &#8220;If we can stabilize insulin levels, we may be able to simply and cost effectively improve blood sugar control and reduce symptoms of depression for these women.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Vitamin D has widespread benefits for our health and certain chronic diseases in particular. Our research may shed greater light on the role this nutrient plays in managing two conditions that impact millions of Americans.
